The role
We run 5,000+ parts a week. The ones that have to look perfect come to you.
Anyone can pull a part off a printer. Turning it into something a client puts in front of their own customer is a craft, and it is usually what decides whether they come back. This is a bench role for someone who wants to be the best finisher in the building, and to set the standard the rest of the floor works to.
02
What you'll do
01Finish FDM and SLA parts to cosmetic standard — support removal, sanding, filling, priming, painting
02Assemble multi-part models — bonding, alignment, fasteners, heat-set inserts
03Hit the same finish on part forty as on part one — batch consistency is the job, not a bonus
04Solve surface problems at the bench — kill layer lines and seams, rescue flawed parts, match texture and color across a set
05Build the jigs, fixtures, and sanding aids that make a good finish repeatable instead of heroic
06Own the cosmetic call — you decide what ships and what goes back
07Set the finishing standard: document what you do so the next person can hit the same result
08Advise on print orientation and support strategy when a part is going to be a finishing problem
09Work the production system — pull from the queue, log your status, keep the schedule honest
10Flag material, tooling, and machine needs before they slow the bench down
11Keep the finishing area clean, ventilated, and organized
03
What you bring
011–2 years hands-on: model making, prop or set fabrication, sculpture, woodshop, metal shop, or a finishing bench
02Real skill with hand tools and finishing materials — abrasives, fillers, primers, spray and airbrush, adhesives
03A portfolio, or photos of things you have made and finished
04Familiarity with FDM or SLA 3D printing and its post-processing quirks
05Comfortable working inside a system — a queue, a schedule, logged work, software that tracks jobs
06The eye — you catch the flaw before the client does, and you know when a part is actually done
07Patience under deadline. Good finishing is slow work done fast.
